I'm into my last week in Wellington. We will be taking the train up to Auckland this coming Sunday and spending my last five days touring and seeing what's what there.
I have a great deal of filling the in between with either themes or whole stories. For now, I think I will continue with themes. This one could be all about vehicles.
Apart from the planes I came here on, I've seen a great deal of big and little vehicles. All of them are fun.
Of course, the cable car, really pulled by cables. Grand speed of about 4 mph.
Maori war canoe, living in it's own little room near Oriental Bay.
Shipping containers as shops, again along the Bay in Wellington. They sure are versatile.
In a country with little snow and ice, cars survive for a long, long time. This is a little Triumph.
Interior of a 1908 streetcar in Christchurch. Touring the small circle of destruction in that city. Around the Cathedral...gone, the old school near the Museum...gone.
In essence, the little boats to punt on the Avon are vehicles? right?
A food truck parked under the canopy of THE food place in Wellington, Moore Wilson's.
More interior of lovely streetcar. So much wood. Bad for the long commute.
Now this was a long commute. Scott's snow cat for the Antarctic expedition.
On our way to Akaroa, that round shaped spit of land east of Christchurch. The drive to get there is like the road to Tofino in BC. A little town where the train station and a few other historic bits had been preserved.
Best little delivery truck in Akaroa.
Trailer heaven. Love the pink. In a Rakaia campground.
Littleton Port. The orange boat hanging on the back is a lifeboat that can shoot off the back, dive and surface, since it's all enclosed. I guess the ship is called Perseverance for a reason.
In the port of Littleton, an ongoing coal industry. Empty coal cars leaving the quayside.
This beauty on the street in Wellington, on Cuba Street.
I keep collecting them, because I like them so much. I took some more pictures today of a very cool car but have not had the chance to upload.
Next? Sculptures.
